Nigel Whitfield

Nigel Whitfield was born in Hexham, Northumberland and has lived and worked in the North East all his life.
As Chief Photographer of The Darlington and Stockton Times and staff photographer with The Northern Echo, Nigel has produced award winning news images for over fifteen years.

He has been the subject of features in photographic publications such as ‘Amateur Photographer’ and is joint author of the ‘199’ series of books which include ‘North Yorkshire 199’, awarded Yorkshire Non-fiction Book of The Year in 2007.

In the same year, Nigel decided to go freelance and is kept busy covering a wide range of photographic subjects throughout his beloved North East England.

He has an eye for the offbeat and unusual angle, often enhancing the essence of a story and producing stunning impact.
