RULES AND GENERAL INFORMATION
The competition is open to all comers of any age group - except full-time professional photographers.
Entrants can compete in one or more categories.
The original photo must have been taken within the last 5 years.
The following are the rules & dates for entry for the 2010 Competition.
Digital entries
- Digital files submitted on a CD-R or online must be full size jpeg format. Please do not downsize your files.
- Each file should be titled electronically to facilitate judging for the five digital categories as: Motion (MOT); Natural World (NAT); Portrait (POR); Open for School/Colleges (SCH); Club Portfolio - Under Threat (CLB). For online submission, just select the approrpiate category in the form.
- The FILENAME must be the TITLE of the images preceded by the category entered, for example: MOT_At Speed.jpg or NAT_Birds of Prey.jpg or POR_My Mum.jpg. Please do NOT use quotes in the title of your pictures. For online submission, just enter the title of the picture where indicated.
- All entries will be displayed at the exhibition.
- Club Portfolio of 10 images - must be from a minimum of 4 club members to form the portfolio. Contributing to a club entry does not disqualify members from entering any other category as individuals. Each file should be titled electronically to facilitate judging for the portfolio of 10 images from the club. Club entries cannot be submitted online, but must be on a CD-R.
- Send your CD-R to Cathy Gledson (see address below) - maximum 20 images per person - any one category or several categories.
- Online submission and payment facilities will be available on this website from 1st January 2010.
Prints
Sizes/mounting
- Photo prints must be mounted on (any colour) mount card or foam board. Entries mounted on paper will not be accepted.
- Maximum overall mount size: 20" x 16" landscape or portrait format. Entries over this size may be rejected. Picture size may vary.
- Prints can be surface mounted or window mounted.

- Please see below for information on collection of entries after the competition.

Entry fees
- £3 per image entered up to a maximum of 20 images, any category other than School/College Section and Club portfolio of 10.
- Minimum entry fee £6 (except for School/College students & Club portfolio of 10).
- Online entries are limited to four pictures per submission, though any individual may enter a total of 20 images as above. There is a transaction fee of 50p per online submission (up to 4 pictures) to cover our additional costs. There is no minimum entry fee for online entries.
- School/College Students (10 to 19yrs): £2 per entry - open competition any subject. See entry form for verification.
- Club Portfolio of 10 images: £20 per Club
- No restriction of entries in any one category up to a total of 20 images; maximum entries per person (ie total across one or all categories) 20 images.
- Please see the appropriate entry form for the address to send your entries.

Photo information
- Your name, address and category for entry must all be clearly stated on the back of each photo mount card and/or attached to your CD-R. This is a required condition of entry.
Please read and check all rules again on application forms before final submission.

Dates for submission
- Mounted photographic images can be submitted by hand to Westgate Frames, 12 Westgate, Ripon until 28th May 9.00am to 5.00pm (Mon - Sat) - our preferred option or
- All Digital CD-R entries (and/or mounted prints) by post to Cathy Gledson to arrive no later than 28th May 2010. No late entries accepted.
- Online entries will be accepted until midnight UK time, 28th May 2010.
- Early entries welcomed.

Judging
- Wednesday 9th June 2010
- Digital entries will be judged on a 27" iMac at 2560 x 1440 pixels.

Winners and Prizegiving
- The Winners list will be published at 10am Saturday 12 June in St John's Church.
- Announcement of the Overall Winner and prize giving will take place at 11.30am in the Church (see exhibition venue and full address below).
- A winners list, with images will be published on our website as soon as practical after the event. We would hope to have this within 24hrs.
- Re-judged/shortlisted entries will also be published on the website where relevant.

EXHIBITION & LECTURE
- To be held at St John's Church, Berrygate Lane, Sharow, Ripon HG4 5BJ North Yorkshire. View zoomable map
- Admission to exhibition free.
- Exhibition - Saturday and Sunday, 12th and 13th June 2010, 10.00am to 4.00pm daily
- Light refreshments available all day.
- Lunch will be served from 12.30pm
- The lecture will follow lunch at 1:00pm on Saturday 12th June. The lecturer is Whitfield Benson who will give a presentation on the subject of This England - the exceptional diversity of the country in which we live.
- Whilst every effort will be made to exhibit all entries, should this be impossible on account of available space, the judges reserve the right to select photos for exhibition on merit.
- Prints and digital images will be displayed throughout the exhibition.
Collection of prints:
- Prints may be collected at the end of the exhibition from St. John's Church, Sharow at 1:00pm on Sunday 13th June. In exceptional circumstances alternative arrangements for collection can be made with the organisers.
